Toronto Orthopedic
Services is the continuation of the Pecorella
family's commitment to caring for and helping
those with special needs.
Albert Pecorella founded our company
in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1916. In 1933, he invented
one of the first fully articulated artificial
hands. Benedict Pecorella, who was Albert’s
son, was a certified Prosthetist and Orthotist.
He became the company’s president in 1950
and held that position until 1971. His son, Michael
Pecorella graduated from New York University with
a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Prosthetics
and Orthotics. In 1973, working with his uncle
- Richard Pecorella, Michael became a Certified
Orthotist with the American Board for Certification
in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
Ortho Lab (Toronto Orthopedics
first name) was the first private facility in
western New York to introduce thermoplastics into
the fabrication of custom braces for the rehabilitation
of our clients.
In 1981, the opportunity to immigrate to Canada
and further continue his professional career brought
Michael to Toronto, Ontario, where he became a
Certified Orthotist with the Canadian Board for
Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists in
1985.
After increasing success in Canada,
a Wheelchair and Seating Department was added
to diversify Toronto Orthopedic’s client
base. With the addition of durable medical equipment
Toronto Orthopedic no longer had to outsource
help to their clients and could address all their
needs in one appointment.
Charlie Tarquin is the manager
of our Wheelchair and Seating Department. He has
been part of the Toronto Orthopedic family for
thirteen years and brings a wealth of knowledge
and experience to his position.
Daniel Pecorella, Michael’s
oldest son, is a Certified Orthotist with the
Canadian Board, and has his Bachelor of Physical
and Health Education from the University of Toronto.
He is currently seeing clients at a number of
facilities for Toronto Orthopedic. Alex Pecorella,
Michael’s youngest son studied at George
Brown College and earned his diploma as an orthotic
technician. He now works as a sales representative
in the Seating and Wheelchair Department.
Our production staff have almost
75 years of combined orthotic technical experience.
They also bring a wealth of personal expertise
to their work ranging from carpentry to jewellery
to Chinese medicine.
The production staff and orthotists
work closely together in order to guarantee product
excellence and 100% client satisfaction.
The friendly office staff provides
quality administrative and client support. Their
educational backgrounds are comprised of a business
management degree and accounting certificates.
Toronto Orthopedic has experienced
steady growth and has gradually expanded its size,
services and client base. It was the first private
facility to successfully establish and manage
children’s orthotic clinics, in the outlying
areas of southern Ontario, by providing the highest
quality of services in the client’s community.
Being located in the west end of Toronto allows
us easy access to service our clients throughout
the southern Ontario region.
Toronto Orthopedic is committed
to caring for our clients now and for the future.
